Money - A Big Taboo
When was the last time you had heart to heart conversation with your partner or your friend or your family? Obvious answer will be not so long ago. Let me add few extra words in that question which will make us really uncomfortable. When was the last time you had heart to heart conversation with your partner or friend or family about your finances?
A study was conducted and they found that money is more taboo than sex. This means that we are more comfortable talking about sex than money. I don't understand why we behave this way. Even today my dad doesn't know my income. We were not taught at school, teachers won't talk about the most important thing in life. This might be because even thier teachers might not have taught them at school.
Why does our society consider rich to be evil and poor to be holy.
We all know about money. There are many things money can't buy.You can buy a costly watch but, you can't buy time. You can buy best medicine but, you can't buy health. You can buy comfortable bed but, you can't buy sleep.
Money is just a tool. We can't eat Money directly, but we can buy things that can satisfy our needs(in this case, our hunger). To all those people who think money is evil, there is a saying Praying lips are better than helping hands and helping hands in most of the situation requires money.
Money is not evil not good. Money is just purely an amplifier. It amplifies your personality. If you are good inside it amplifies you. India's biggest philanthropist premji of Wipro is best example. Money is an enabler. It also enables you to do things that make world better place than it was before you, money will help you do it.
Not all rich are proud and rash. Take a look at the Tata's. Down to earth and very humble. Even if rich people are proud of what they achieved its ok. What's not ok is being rude and behaving rash.
For my investment icon, Warren Buffet, money was his report card. His wife asked him to donate for charity. He refused with good intentions. His intention was to donate more by multiplying what he currently has. Soon after his wife passed away, he made biggest philanthropist donation ever in the history.
This is a deadly spiral. Having money taboo makes us more financial ignorant which inturn makes us to take wrong financial decisions. And this goes on.
Let's be more open about our finances. It's ok to have our salary and our financial positions known to our partner, family and friends. Sharing this info eases out stress and makes you feel relieved that you are not alone in this and you got people who care about you always with you.
whatever you wrote utmostly makes sense, and you are correct!
